SERVE IN THE CHURCH

Servant leadership

A Lead Servant is any servant who leads other servants in an assigned task or service-oriented ministry.

“Lead servant” is the literal translation of the Greek term diakinos or “deacon” or “deaconess.” We believe using the translation of the word helps us more clearly understand and execute the Biblical purposes for this role in the church. We also believe this is the example provided for us in the early Church (Book of Acts) and how they accomplished ministry through the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:7-13).

If you are interested in serving in a specific area, please contact the lead servant over that ministry. If you feel that God might be calling you to lead in a new ministry, please contact an elder of the church and discuss the need that you see and how you can help us meet that need.

Ministry TEAMs

Every Sunday is someone's first Sunday. We are building and developing teams of people to welcome new and returning guests each Sunday. This includes greeters, prayer partners, parking lot attendants, bulletin coordinators, and Connection Center helpers.

  • Greeters: Church members who welcome the people God has brought to our church have the opportunity to influence these visitors in a positive way. 2 Corinthians 5:20 states, "We are Christ's ambassadors." Serving as a greeter is representing Jesus Christ in that first important connection with visitors. Contact Sondra Umphress if you would like to be a part of this team.
  • Connection Center Hosts: Be a part of providing a ministry of hospitality to guests and members by serving at the Connection Center on Sunday mornings by answering questions about the church, ministries, and events as well as distributing welcome packets. Contact Diana Breeden or Penny Gilliatt.

  • Prayer Partners: Prayer is very important in the life of every Christian and we strive to encourage every Christ follower to be a praying servant. Prayer connects us to God and what He is doing. This team provides prayer for those who need prayer. They keep track of prayers and praises and keep them before God on behalf of those requesting prayer. They pray for the weekend services. They help with any prayer efforts we might do as a community of believers or for the community. Contact Brian Gilroy or an elder if you are interested in leading this team.

  • Visitation: People matter to both God and us. Individuals need to know that they are missed and loved. Join the team to show you care about those who are: Homebound, Hospitalized, or in a Nursing Home. Contact Brian Gilroy, Lead Minister.

Tips: Spend time listening, Give the gift of touch, offer to pray with/for them, Leave something with them as a reminder of your visit like a card, a flower, last week's bulletin or sermon cd, food, etc.

  • Care & Cards: This team encourages members of our congregation who are sick, in the hospital, nursing home or home bound by visitation, sending cards and making phone calls. Contact Janice Montgomery or Jane Newton.
